2016 Elementary Solstice Camp


Campers in grade specific groups will discover their inner hero as they explore Multicultural Arts, the Environment, and Farm-to-Table cooking through group challenges and off-site adventures. Led and facilitated by RDASC and Beacon staff and MCAP artists.

Led by RDASC’s Site Managers (Tara Anastasi and Simone Crew), campers will explore, build, hike, create and work together in a kid-centered community.  Campers will be hitting the trail to adventure around the Richmond District neighborhood, as well as hands-on activities, crafts and games.

Ages: For rising 1st through 5th graders


Lunches & snacks: Lunch and snacks will be provided.
Gear: Campers should be prepared for daily adventure and be able to walk/hike outdoors in the Richmond District’s chilly summer weather.


Weekly Camp Explorations

June 6-10: Multicultural Art Explorations
Campers will discover art in likely and unlikely places in the Richmond District.  They will unleash their inner artists by utilizing unique media, creativity and hands-on exploration.

June 13-17: Ecological Explorations
From the hiking trails of the Presidio to the sands and surf of SF beaches, campers will
discover the rich natural history of the area and learn how to contribute to the preservation of urban parks and natural resources.

June 20-24: Innovation and Tinkering
Unleash your inner inventor as campers will design and create their own invention based on their visits to Richmond District landmarks.

June 27-July 1: Culinary Tales and Tastes
Children’s literature is abundant with food references and recipes. Campers will participate in morning story times and then prepare some of the meals referenced in the books they’ve read.

July 5-8: Urban Farming (No camp on July 4)
Using the Westside Community Garden at RDNC head- quarters, campers will help grow and maintain organic produce and harvest foods to make during daily cooking classes.

July 11-15: Local Food and Culture
KidChefs will explore the cooking techniques and cultural foods of the
Richmond District, which will culminate in our end-of-camp Cook-Off!
