NATURALIST - Supporting Elementary School Age Youth

RDASC (a program of Richmond District Neighborhood Center) is seeking a NATURALIST for our after school program.

The Naturalist will be located at an elementary school in the Richmond District of San Francisco and will be responsible for the naturalist program at the after school site, focusing on environmental education with daily nature experiences incorporating interdisciplinary activities (e.g., art and science).Responsibilities include understanding the wealth of learning resources that exist within the Richmond District and beyond and drawing upon these resources to provide enrichment to youth, developing and introducing new curriculum, which should include weekly activities

The successful candidate will have: B.A. in environmental education, outdoor education, ecology, elementary education or related field.  Minimum 2 years experience working with children in nature with the ability to blend indoor and outdoor learning experiences, ability to lead children safely on nature hikes, outdoor experiences and field trips, sometimes using public transportation, ability to blend science, literacy, music, drama, art, etc., into a multi-disciplinary approach to teaching, experience in youth development and behavior modification theories and techniques, ability to work independently. All candidates will be subject to a clearance of TB test and fingerprinting (criminal background check).

Hours & Compensation:  $18.00-$22.00/hr. This is a part time (20 hrs/wk) seasonal (August 2014 – May 2015) position. Benefits include vacation and holiday pay; medical coverage in accord with the San Francisco HSCO (Health Care Security Ordinance) and sick leave in accord with the San Francisco Paid Sick Leave Ordinance.

HOMEWORK LEADER - Supporting Elementary School Age Youth

RDASC (a program of Richmond District Neighborhood Center) is seeking HOMEWORK LEADERS for our after school programs.

The Homework Leader will be located at one of the elementary schools in the Richmond District of San Francisco and will be responsible for providing assistance to children ages 5-11 with homework completion and facilitating enrichment activities for the program.  Responsibilities include assisting program participants with daily homework tasks, implementing efforts to align school day and after school academic strategies, facilitating education programming including place-based and project-based learning, and communicating with parents on the academic progress of students.

The successful candidate must meet SFUSD Instructional Aide Requirements:  An AA degree or higher or Official transcripts reflecting 48 college units and a high school diploma/equivalent or Completion of CBEST and a high school diploma/equivalent. Minimum one year experience working with children in an educational environment, experience assisting elementary-aged youth with homework, excellent written and verbal skills, proven experience with facilitating hands-on, educational curriculum. Proficiency in Chinese, Russian, Vietnamese, or Spanish, a plus.  All candidates will be subject to a clearance of TB test and fingerprinting (criminal background check).

RECREATION/WELLNESS LEADER - Supporting Elementary School Age Youth

RDASC (a program of Richmond District Neighborhood Center) is seeking a RECREATION/WELLNESS LEADER for our after school programs.

The Recreation/Wellness Leader will be located at an elementary school in the Richmond District of San Francisco and will be responsible for the development and implementation of recreation and wellness activities at the site.  The Recreation/Wellness Leader provides co-supervision of children ages 5-11 who are in the RDASC program.  Responsibilities include creating and implementing Wellness programming using a wide array of Recreation, Nutrition, social/emotional, mindfulness and Environmental Education curriculum and ensuring that the curriculum corresponds to SFUSD Wellness guidelines. Develops and implements enrichment activities relating to project-based learning and develops and submits a monthly calendar of games and activity plans.

The successful candidate must meet SFUSD Instructional Aide Requirements:  An AA degree or higher or Official transcripts reflecting 48 college units and a high school diploma/equivalent or Completion of CBEST and a high school diploma/equivalent. Minimum two years’ college level experience in Child Development/Education or related field (B.A preferred). Two years experience working with elementary school children in an educational environment, excellent verbal skills, proven experience with curriculum development and facilitation around Recreation, Nutrition, and environmental education, working knowledge of Microsoft Office. Proficiency in Chinese, Russian, Vietnamese, or Spanish, a plus. All candidates will be subject to a clearance of TB test and fingerprinting (criminal background check).

SAFETY & SUPPORT LEADER, Supporting Middle School Age Youth

Richmond Village Beacon (a program of Richmond District Neighborhood Center) is seeking Safety & Support Leaders.

The Safety & Support Leader will be located at either Presidio or Roosevelt Middle Schools located in the Richmond District of San Francisco.  The Safety & Support Leader will be responsible for providing a safe and healthy environment for youth in the after school programs.  This will include monitoring both inside and outside of the site, tracking and documenting facility use and persons on campus during after school programs, directing youth participants using in-the-moment correction and positive follow-up, and providing additional support to the program staff.

The successful candidate must meet SFUSD Instructional Aide Requirements:  An AA degree or higher or official transcripts reflecting 48 college units and a high school diploma/equivalent or completion of CBEST and a high school diploma/equivalent. Experience must include working with youth, ideally in a middle school setting, strong youth supervision and problem-solving experience, very strong interpersonal, coordination, communication and problem-solving skills, knowledge of and experience in dealing with conflict mediation/resolution, ability to multi task, flexible and adaptable. Bilingual Cantonese, Spanish, Russian, Vietnamese, preferred. All candidates will be subject to a clearance of TB test and fingerprinting (criminal background check).

HIGH SCHOOL AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM MANAGER – High School Age Youth

Richmond District Neighborhood Center is seeking a High School After School Program Manager.

The High School After School Program Manager will be located at George Washington High School and will be responsible for supervising students in after school and summer enrichment programs, management of a small staff, and program administrative duties for Richmond Village Beacon and SFUSD ExCEL.  The duties include managing day-to-day logistics of the program; managing individual student case management for student’s academic and social needs; creating curricula and programs that meet the standards and needs of the program, students, families, teachers and administrators; coaching and counseling program individuals, groups, volunteers and staff; recruiting/outreaching and retaining students for the programs; developing and maintaining partnerships and collaborations with like organizations; ensuring that program is in compliance with all district and grant guidelines; coordinating academic tutoring support and credit recovery; monitoring and maintaining financial performance relative to the budget; providing staff with training, evaluation and guidance.

The successful candidate will be able to work independently within a structured program and have BA/BS in related field or equivalent; a minimum 2 years in training and mentoring youth workers and supervising paid & volunteer staff, experience in curriculum development and program planning, and experience managing student’s academic and social needs. All candidates will be subject to a clearance of TB test and fingerprinting (criminal background check).

Hours & Compensation: This is a regular, full-time, exempt position (40 hrs/week, core hours: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm). Salary is $38,000 – $43,000 per annum, DOE. Benefits include a comprehensive benefit package including medical, dental, vision, life, 403(b), vacation and sick leave.

ASSISTANT SITE MANAGER – Elementary School Age Youth

RDASC is seeking an Assistant Site Manager.

The Assistant Site Manager will be located at one of the elementary schools in the Richmond District in San Francisco and will be responsible for supporting the Site Manager and in partnership with the Site Manager, providing general oversight for the functioning of the school site after school program. The duties include working with the Site Manager to develop and oversee educational programming; promoting an interdisciplinary approach to education (multi-sensory, hands-on, interactive, discovery-based); providing oversight of programs, students and staff; and communicating with school administration, faculty and parents.  Takes the lead on site and lesson plan development. Oversees safety and supervision of youth in the program. Provides primary supervision to Youth Program Assistants. Works with Site Manager and Program Manager to develop a vision of student engagement and the practice of Restorative Justice, social emotional learning and habits of Mind.

The successful candidate must meet SFUSD Instruction Aide Requirements (AA or equivalent, 48 college level units, or pass CBEST test and a high school diploma/equivalent). Minimum two years’ college level experience in Child Development/Education or related field (B.A preferred) and two years working with children. A minimum 2 years experience working with children in an education environment, proven experience with curriculum development, proven meeting facilitation skills, excellent written and verbal skills, working knowledge of Microsoft Office, proficiency in Chinese, Russian, Vietnamese, or Spanish, a plus, strong, out-going personality and sense of humor, demonstrated history of reliability, accountability, and responsibility, desire to continue learning and growing as a youth worker. All candidates will be subject to a clearance of TB test and fingerprinting (criminal background check).

Hours & Compensation:  $17.00-$18.50/hr. This is a full-time (30 hrs/wk) seasonal (through May 2015) position. Benefits include a comprehensive benefit package including medical, dental, vision, life, 403(b), vacation and sick leave.

STUDENT SUPPORT LEADER – George Washington High School in the Beacon Center

Richmond Village Beacon (a program of Richmond District Neighborhood Center) is seeking Student Support Leader.

The Student Support Leader will be located at George Washington High School in the Beacon Center. He/she will provide one-on-one support to identified student with special needs. Must be able to create and organize engaging activities for student with limited communication skills, create and organize cognitively appropriate community outings and facilitate integration of identified students into the afterschool community. Some of the essential duties and responsibilities include working one on one with a youth with special needs (autism, aggression), including tutoring and completing homework, playing games, and helping socialize with peers, within the afterschool program; developing and implementing an individual treatment plan with concrete goals, expectations and accommodations; utilizing behavior modification principles in the design, documentation, and implementation of positive and behavioral reduction programs; writing organized and in-depth notes and keeping data on treatment plan goals. Must also function as coordinator of communication between parents, faculty and after school staff to receive input on treatment plans and update necessary parties on student progress.

Provide any additional case management and referrals to identify additional support as necessary. When necessary, assists other students with homework, playing games, or socializing with peers.

The successful candidate will have a minimum one year of experience working with students with autism; minimum one year of experience using aggression reduction techniques; minimum one year of experience in a setting requiring the knowledge of techniques on how to safely restrain students who present a threat to themselves or others (e.g., Crisis Prevention Institute Training experience in a residential group home, etc.). The candidate should also have demonstrated patience and compassion and to be adaptable to changing situations. All candidates will be subject to a clearance of TB test and fingerprinting (criminal background check).

Hours & Compensation: $16.00-$18.00/hour (when working with the identified student); $14.50-$16.00 (when assisting other students). This is a part time (hours TBD but would be in the 3:00pm to 6:00 pm timeframe), seasonal (summer 2014) position. Benefits include health and sick leave in accord with the San Francisco HSCO (Health Care Security Ordinance) and San Francisco Paid Sick Leave Ordinance.
