DETAILS: As of this writing, the top contenders for the championship are the Washington Eagles, the Lowell Cardinals and the Balboa Buccaneers. See the two teams that make it through the playoffs battle for the S.F. crown! Free admission.

DAY OF THE RUSSIAN CHILD
When: Sun, May 6, 12pm – 5pm
Where: Russian Center of San Francisco 2450 Sutter
Description: RUSSIAN CHILDREN’S WELFARE SOCIETY presents a fundraising festival where we will have a Russian Buffet, Youth Performers, Children's Artwork and a Book Sale. Adults $6.00, children $3.00; 7 and under free. Discount parking across the street. All proceeds will go towards needy Russian children and donations are tax deductible.

Beach Chalet Athletic Fields Environmental Report to be issued
WHEN: Wednesday, May 9th

DETAILS: The Final Comments and Responses to the Environmental Impact Report for the Beach Chalet Athletic Fields will be issued on May 9th.  The Beach Chalet Athletic Fields project will destroy the western end of Golden Gate Park by replacing a grassy practice field with over 7 acres of artificial turf and 150,000 watts of stadium lighting.  The lights will be lighted until 10:00 p.m. every night of the year. SF Ocean Edge is proposing renovating the field with real grass and NO night lights.  Please contact www.sfoceanedge.org to learn more and what you can do to protect Golden Gate park.

It’s Yoga, Kids!

8th Annual Richmond Community Health Festival

Details: The Health Festival will feature FREE clinical health services including blood pressure tests, body mass index tests, body fat tests, allergy advice, hearing tests, eyeglass cleaning, dental screening, bone density tests, Hep B screening and medical reviews. The fair will also feature FREE giveaways, food, health education offered by more than 40 community health organizations, children’s activities and family fun.

Beach Chalet Athletic Fields Hearing on EIR and approval
WHEN: Thursday, May 24th  - tentative date
WHERE: City Hall, Room and time to be announced
DETAILS: This will be a joint hearing of the Planning Commission and the Recreation and Park Department on the Beach Chalet Athletic Fields Environmental Impact Report and final approval of this project.    There may be an additional hearing at the Board of Supervisors in June.   This will be your last chance to protect Golden Gate Park from 7 acres of artificial turf and 150,000 watts of night lighting, right across from Ocean Beach. 25th Annual Children’s Art Fair

Stairway Walks in San Francisco

ElderWISE
What: VOLUNTEER to become a friendly visitor and make an impact on the quality of life for an isolated elder. We match volunteers, age 21 and older, one-on-one with an elder.
Where: San Francisco
When: Minimum of 2 visits per month

Richmond District Neighborhood Center Food Pantry
Where: RDNC- 741 30th Ave. San Francisco
When: Thursdays 1pm-5pm
Details: The RDNC Food Pantry is always looking for new volunteers to help us setup and distribute food to those in need. Without the help of community volunteers this important resource would be impossible to maintain. The Food Pantry is held at RDNC every Thursday; we begin setup at 1pm, sign in at 2pm and distribution from 3-5pm. We realize schedules are busy and appreciate drop in help at any point throughout the Food Pantry. There is plenty of work to do for volunteers of all ages and abilities! Food Pantry

Details: Weekly farmers’-market style distributions allow clients to select the foods that best meet their families’ needs. Ansai Waist Drumming Class
When: Registration is April 15, 2012- Classes are Held Sundays from 4-5PM
Where: St. Anne's Church gym, Funston and Judah Ave.
Details: The Ansai waist drum dance is a unique, large-scale folk dance with a history of more than 2,000 years.  The drum dance is a traditional lunar New Year and Lantern Festival activity in Shaanxi Province. Young people perform the dance throughout their villages while wishing people a happy New Year.The Ansai waist drum dance is an impressive spectacle that consists of vigorous dances and leaps accompanied by frenetic drumming.  The dancers wear costumes and headdresses similar to those of ancient Chinese soldiers.

A demo/free class will be offered on April 15, 2012 from 4-5 p.m.; you may also register on that date or fill out the form below to reserve your spot. Classes will consists of basic drum beats, rhythm, dancing techniques and formations. Space is limited, first come first served, the current maximum capacity is 15 students.

What: Would you like a volunteer to visit you at home to share stories, take a walk or help with small tasks? Can you no longer get out into the community to be with friends?

When: You will receive a visit at least 2 times per month and become a part of our check-in program, by phone.

Details: ElderWISE is a community outreach program of Episcopal Senior Communities and is dedicated to improving the life of isolated elders by matching you with a trained volunteer.
